SECTION 5-16-2

   § 5-16-2  Permit required. – No person may conduct or operate a public laundry in any city or town until thelicensing authorities of that city or town shall have caused an inspection tobe made of the laundry and shall have issued a permit for the operation of thepublic laundry. The permit shall be issued upon any terms and subject to anyrules and regulations not inconsistent with law, that the licensing authoritiesprescribe for the purpose of protecting the public health and the suppressionof unsanitary conditions. Every permit issued under the authority of thischapter shall continue in force until the first day of July in the yearfollowing its issue unless sooner revoked or suspended. The licensingauthorities of any city or town may fix a fee to be paid for each permit whichshall not exceed ten dollars ($10.00) for the term of one year or a pro ratasum for the unexpired portion of any year. Those fees shall be paid into thecity or the town treasury. Any permit issued may be revoked or suspended by thelicensing authorities for cause shown after a hearing of which the holder ofthe permit receives seven (7) days' notice in writing.
