§  5201.  Functions of institute. The research institute on addictions  is designated as an institute for the conduct of research and  education  directed  towards  furthering  knowledge  of  the  etiology,  diagnosis,  treatment and prevention of addictions,  including  alcoholism,  alcohol  abuse,  substance  abuse,  substance dependence and chemical dependence.  The university shall  foster  support  and  obtain  funds  for  research  thereby,  or  under  the  direction  thereof,  or  through  contract  or  agreement, relating to primary biochemical and  social  causes  of  such  addictions, the epidemiology of such addictions and the effectiveness of  various  types of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation programs and  approaches.
