§ 365-e. Veterans' hall of fame; criteria for nomination. 1. A nominee  must   be  an  honorably  discharged  veteran,  as  defined  in  section  eighty-five of the civil service law and a resident of New  York  state.  The  nominee  shall  have  made  significant contributions at the local,  state, or national level by achieving excellence through  actions  above  and  beyond the required level in their selected field or profession, as  determined by the council, or shall have made a significant contribution  voluntarily to all veterans and  the  military,  as  determined  by  the  council. The council shall solicit the opinions of the superintendent of  the  United  States  military  academy,  the  secretary of the army, the  secretary of the navy, the secretary of the air force, the commandant of  the marine corps, and the commandant of the coast guard.  At  least  one  inductee  from  each  of  the following categories must be inducted each  year inductions take place: World War II; Korean conflict; Vietnam  war;  Persian Gulf war; Iraq conflict; Afghanistan conflict and other wars and  conflicts  as  the council shall deem appropriate. Posthumous inductions  may be made.  Other  specific  criteria  shall  be  established  by  the  council.    2.  Those not eligible for induction include members of the executive,  legislative,  or  judicial  branch  of  the  federal,  state,  or  local  governments until two years after they cease such employment or service,  unless  they  have  reached the age of seventy-five. Current members who  serve on the  council,  the  veterans'  affairs  commission  established  pursuant  to  section  three  hundred fifty-two of this article, the New  York  state  veterans'  home  board  of  visitors  pursuant  to  section  twenty-six  hundred thirty-one of the public health law and chapter four  hundred two of the laws of nineteen hundred eighty-four,  the  New  York  state veterans' military heritage institute board of directors and board  of  advisors,  the New York state military museum and veterans' research  center, the veterans' interagency council created by the state director,  and the state director shall not be eligible until five years after they  cease such service.
