§  17-1720  Fire  districts;  preservation  of  fire  districts,  fire  protection districts and fire alarm districts. 1. In every such  village  any  fire  districts  created  or  organized under the provisions of the  county law, shall be merged in and consolidated with  such  village  and  shall become a part of such village for fire protection purposes and all  buildings, engines, fire apparatus, and other property belonging to such  fire  district  shall  be  vested  in  such  village  and maintained and  administered by it as a part of the fire protection system thereof.  All  the  powers  and duties of the commissioners of such fire district shall  be and are hereby devolved upon and transferred to the board of trustees  of such village. For the purpose of paying the principal and interest of  any bonds of any such fire district which may be outstanding and  unpaid  at  the  date  of  the  incorporation  of any such village, the board of  trustees of such village shall levy, assess and  collect  upon  all  the  taxable  property  in such village, a tax sufficient to pay the interest  thereof as the same accrues and  sufficient  also  to  provide  for  the  payment of the principal of such bonds at maturity.    2. At any time after the date the report of incorporation is delivered  to  the secretary of state pursuant to section 2-232 of the village law,  and prior to the first day of June following the first  day  of  January  next  succeeding the date of incorporation, the board of trustees of any  village in which a majority of the electors has approved  a  proposition  submitted  to the voters in accordance with subdivision three of section  17-1708 hereof, may adopt a local law providing that any fire  district,  fire   protection   district,   fire  alarm  district  or  any  district  functioning pursuant to section one hundred eighty-six of the  town  law  which is located wholly or partly within the boundaries of such village,  shall  continue to function in all respects whatsoever, and all officers  and employees of such entity shall continue to hold  their  offices  and  exercise  their  powers  and  duties,  as  though  such village were not  incorporated.    3. In the event that the board of trustees adopts a local law pursuant  to subdivision two of this section, then notwithstanding  any  provision  of  sections  2-252, 2-254, 2-256, 2-258, 17-1704, 17-1720 or 17-1726 of  the village law, any such fire district, fire protection district,  fire  alarm  district  or  any  district  functioning  pursuant to section one  hundred eighty-six of the town law which is  located  wholly  or  partly  within  the  boundaries  of such village, shall continue to function, in  all respects whatsoever, and all officers and employees of  such  entity  shall  continue  to  hold  their  offices  and exercise their powers and  duties, as though such village were not incorporated.
