<br><br>83A.110 Staggered terms for legislative body members. <br>(1) Staggered terms for city legislative body members may be established or abolished <br>only by popular vote under the provisions of KRS 83A.120. <br>(2) If staggered terms for legislative body members are adopted, the length of terms <br>shall be determined in the following manner: subsequent to the election of <br>legislative body members in that same election or in the next regular election but <br>prior to their taking office, it shall be determined that half of the legislative body <br>shall serve a term of two (2) years and half shall serve a term of one (1) year and the <br>determination shall be made by drawing lots. At each subsequent regular election, <br>elections shall be held for half the seats on the city legislative body. <br>(3) If staggered terms for legislative body members are abolished the length of terms <br>shall be established in the following manner: At the next regular election, the half <br>of the legislative body to be elected shall be elected for one (1) year terms. <br>(4) No city which changes either to or from staggered terms for legislative body <br>members under this section shall again change sooner than five (5) years from the <br>effective date of the last change. <br>Effective: July 15, 1980 <br>History: Created 1980 Ky.
